Abbiamo impostato il workshop intorno all'esplorazione di un territorio complesso, Monza e la Brianza, che è contemporaneamente un luogo fisico e l'insieme delle immagini mentali che vi si riferiscono.

E' interessante osservare come, di fronte a questo territorio, sensibilità artistiche in certi casi anche molto lontane da esso hanno reagito, attraverso la produzione di due diverse tipologie di "manufatti" (mappe e oggetti) che abbiamo suggerito come strumenti di descrizione e di interpretazione.

Se tentiamo di dare una lettura generale a queste reazioni "a caldo", scaturite dal confronto di pochi giorni tra artisti e territorio, sembrano emergere tre concetti: paesaggio, informazione, trasformazione.

Paesaggio è quanto di un territorio si presta ad una rappresentazione, sia essa sotto forma di panorama, decostruzione o esperienza fisica attraverso i sensi.

Informazione è ciò che di un territorio viene comunicato, attraverso i vari media, nell'esperienza quotidiana e nell'interazione tra chi lo abita e lo percorre o anche semplicemente cerca di conoscerlo a distanza.

Trasformazione è la sommatoria dei processi di mutamento in atto; la frizione tra momenti storici differenti: passati, presenti, futuri; il desiderio di lasciare un segno del proprio passaggio.

We structured the workshop around the exploration of a complex territory, Monza and Brianza, which is, at the same time, a physical place and the ensemble of mental images that refer to it.

It is interesting to observe how different artistic sensibilities, in some cases very distant from this territory, reacted to it through the production of two different typologies of “artifacts” (maps and objects) that we suggested as tools for description and interpretation.

Three concepts seem to emerge if we try to give a general reading of these “on the spot” reactions, that sprang out from a confrontation of few days between artists and territory: landscape, information, transformation.

Landscape is what of a territory lends itself to representation, in the way of panorama, deconstruction or physical experience through senses.

Information is what of a territory is communicated, by different media, in the daily experience and interaction between people who inhabit, go through or simply try to know it from a distance.

Transformation is the sum of ongoing change processes; the friction between different points of historical time: past, present, future; the wish to leave a trace of one’s own passage.
